Motorcycle Repair: lt 80 suzuki 2003, lt 80, starter motor

Son and a friend ran out of gas in the woods.tried to repeatedly start unit.I brought back unit to house and unit does nothing.Replaced battery and still nothing.Parts are quite expensive and was looking at various options,Cdi is expensive as well as starter .Could it be starter motor relay and how do I check?
