Motorcycle Repair: Honda V65 Magna, honda v65 magna, 1983 v65 magna

Question
Falcon,
I am restoring my 1983 V65 Magna. It has been garaged for over 10 years.  I would like to know what is used to flush and seal the carburators and backup tank. I will be replacing all the lines, filters, pump, etc. and have also purchased a replacement gas tank, as my original was dented. Any advice you could give me to ensure I do "prior" to sending it in for a tuneup and overhall inspection, I would greatly appreciate. In addition; I am in North East Ohio,  would you happen to know of a reputable shop that you could recommend me take the bike to?

Answer
Hi Rob.

Use carb cleaner to clean the carbs.  They may need to be soaked in it for a while before it will get the jets really clean.  You may just want the shop to do that as it may require the carbs to be completely disassembled to get really clean.

As far as the tank; if it is new, it is going to be okay, but if it is a used or reconditioned tank, then reseal the tank.  Remove and reseal the reserve tank (under the seat) as well.

As far as shops; I am in South Florida, so the only ones that I know are local to me.

Good luck and ride safe.
