Motorcycle Repair: will not start, starter solenoid, 1982 honda v45

Question
I have a 1982 Honda V45.  When I attempt to start it,  a part next to the battery clicks, but nothing fires.  The part mentioned has a 30 Amp stip fuse, which is still good.  Also, is there any place with online manuals for this bike.  Thanks

Answer
Hi Chad.

That part next to the battery, which clicks, is the starter solenoid.  If you arc across it's leads with a screwdriver (with insulated handle) it should turn the starter.  It sounds  as if the starter solenoid is bad, so just replace it.

As far as that strip fuse, that is the main fuse and that type is called a fusible link.  I would get a 30 amp blade fuse and holder and wire them in in place of the fusible link as no one carries fusible link fuses any longer.

For the repair manual, you can order them from any Honda dealer or decent bike shop or online at www.repairmanuals.com if you have no shops near you.

Good luck and ride safe.
