Motorcycle Repair: 1987 Honda Cbr 600 Hurricane, heavy duty clutch, honda cbr 600

Question
Mr. Shively,

Hi, I am a new rider and just purchased a used 1987 Honda Cbr 600 Hurricane.  It seems to run pretty good.  I have the manual from the owner and did extensive reading.  My problem is the clutch handle is way too tight to press, which makes it harder to shift gears.

Question:

How can I loosen the clutch to make it easier to press?

Much appreciated,

Oliver

Answer
Hi Oliver,

Is the clutch and clutch cable adjusted, properly routed, in good condition, and lubricated?

Did the previous owner install heavy-duty clutch springs? If so, consider going back to OEM springs.

Check the above and change or repair accordingly.

Consider replacing the OEM clutch lever with an aftermarket Power Lever. Power Levers are ergonomically shaped levers that give mechanical advantage leverage and shorter reach over most OEM levers.
