Motorcycle Repair: Problem w/2nd, virago 250, shift forks

Question
I have a '96 Virago 250.  Someone dropped it in my backyard on the gear shift side.  Since, I can get it into 1st and N with no problem however "2nd" is really rough.  They adjusted the foot pedal to allow additional room for shifting however didn't solve the problem.  After it goes into 2nd - no problem with 3,4,5.  Only 2nd "really hard" to get to.  HELP.

Answer
Hi Rena.

What you have is possibly a bent shift shaft or broken shift forks.  This situation requires opening up the engine and going into the transmission.

Get it to a shop and have them work on it, unless you feel confident removing the engine and doing the work yourself.  Also get a repair manual for the bike.  Particularly if you plan on doing ANY work on the bike yourself.

Good luck.
