Motorcycle Repair: Damsel in distress on 04 Yam Vstar, overflow tube, damsel in distress

Question
My bike (2004 vstar 650) has been garaged for a year now (i was pregnant) and now, when i tried to start it, it wouldn't turn over.  I looked down after smelling gas and there was a small black hose (fuel line?) leaking gas every time i hit the starter...did this get unattached? where does it go? It doesn't have a clamp on it and doesn't appear to have indentations that would indicate it ever DID have a clamp on it? is there a male connector that this attaches to somehere on the block?  HELP! i wanna RIDE...

Answer
First, charge the battery and have it tested to make sure it is good. If not, then replace it. Second, drain the gas and put fresh in. The gas you are smelling is coming from the overflow tube at the carb. Over time the gas will varnish and make the float stick, so the bowl runs over. The carb or carbs, not sure how many since I work on harleys, will have to be removed and taken apart and cleaned.
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
