Motorcycle Repair: I have a fuel problem, honda v65, fuel stabilizer

Question
MY husband and i have owned our honda v65 saber for 4 years it is an 1100 cc bike and we love it. this year when he took her out for the first time he noticed that the rpm's kept going up like the clutch was slippingso we had it replaced but the problem is still there . we are now being told that it might be the fuel pump or the carbs . Is there any way to find out what the problem is before we are into the thousands on repaire costs?

Answer
Michelle.... if the rpms are going up like the clutch is slipping and the bike is in gear under load then the clutch or something is still slipping. Perhaps the hydraulic cylinder isn't backing off all the way when the lever is released.

The only other thing to "slip" is the drive shaft splines.
I am not really clear about your questions and the conditions where it begins to malfunction.

If you are talking about a raising idle condition when the bike warms up, it could be an air leak in the intake system...  manifold joints, vacuum hoses connected to something that is malfunctioning, restricted fuel filter or low pump output. You can disconnect the fuel line from the pump and check it for flow. Replace the filter if it hasn't been replaced for awhile. You can probably get an inexpensive one at an auto parts store that will be a match.
If the bike sat for a year without fuel stabilizer in it, there could be blockages in the carbs due to varnish and deposits.
