Motorcycle Repair: kick start problems, pinky finger, troubleshooting instructions

Question
i have a 1984 honda cr80r. i bought it used about 3 months ago and it ran fan until about a month ago. it started cutting out and now, the kick starter seems to have no compression and the bike will not start. i can push the kick starter down with my pinky finger with no problem. when we do push it down, you can hear the motor trying to start but nothing happens. someone suggested the ignition coil, so we tested it and it seemed to be bad. so i ordered another one from a salvage place and when we got it, we tested it and it was bad too. please help me...i want to ride my bike again! thanks

Answer
Hi Crystal,

I suspect the kick starter spring may have separated from the kick lever.

Will the engine start and run if push-started?

Remove the spark plug and note its appearance. Clean the plug and reinstall it into the cylinder head.

Describe the appearance of the plug to me.
