Motorcycle Repair: appropriate pipes or mufflers, drag pipes, increase horsepower

Question
I have a 2000 FXST equipped with a screaming eagle ignition module & coil (6200 rpm) and high flow air cleaner as well as a thunder slider kit.

I will probably leave the rest of the engine stock. I am looking for either mufflers or an exhaust system that will maximize my power and the equipment installed but not be so loud as to be obnoxious on a Sunday morning ride.

Any tips?

There is so much product out there, I'm confused.

Answer
Your stock exhaust system is pretty restrictive, due to the fact that harley has to meet EPA standards for noise and exhaust. There are many different exhaust systems out there and they all claim to be the best. Stay away from drag pipes. The will make you lose horsepower. They are designed for high RPMs. The Screaming Eagle mufflers are good as well as Cycle Shack pipes. Both will help the bike breath better as well as increase horsepower.
Good luck and happy holidays
