Motorcycle Repair: Oil Change, suzuki gsxr1100, flank drive

Question
I have recently purchased a track only, bike engined car.  The first intent was to make it road legal, which I have now done.  The second is to learn more about mechanics.
So with that in mind number 1 is to do an oil change.  I have changed oil on cars before but never a bike. Are they that different?  One observation is the lack of a dipstick - how much oil do I use? (I do know where it goes?) I haven't drained it down yet, is there a sump plug similar to a car too?  The donor bike is a Suzuki GSXR1100 from 1986.

Is there a site that shows "how to"? (I have looked but cannot find one.)

Thanks in Advance
Robert

Answer
Hi Robert, unfortunantly I am not much help with a Hybrid Gixxer Car. I would have to look at the setup to give you any sound advice at all. Here's what I can tell you, there is a sump drain bolt, the filter is a canister style not a spin on. You might have to remove the exhaust header to access the oil filter in which case you need to get new crush washers for the header. The crush washers go between the header and the cylinder head. I believe GSXRs had a crank case sight glass that indicated oil level, you wont be able to see it probably. The engine should hold approximetly 4.5 quarts oil with the filter change, about 4 quarts with out a filter change. Take what you know about cars and throw it out the window, cars are made of steel and iron....well at least they used to be..they are forgiving of a student technician and his hamfisted fumbling, using the wrong tool, overtorquing {if thats a word} unpatient, frustrated, break everything he touches,
butt, where as a motorcycle ISN'T. Motorcycles are Aluminum, Magnesium and other soft metals..with hard steel fastners, that like to STRIP or SNAP OFF when not approached properly. Also Motorcycles demand Quality TOOLS.
I cant stress that enough these days. I am not talking about Craftsman either..Craftsman tools are not Quality. Hold a 10mm Craftsman wrench in one hand and a Matco F5 or Snap-on Flank drive Plus 10mm in the other and you will understand what I mean. Remember, select the proper tool for the job, quality tools, service manual, patience, and an Allexpert expert a few clicks away and you cant go wrong
Robert..
