Motorcycle Repair: Harley Brake Job, harley davidson service, d mechanic

Question
Hi Johnny;
Yup, getting the service manual today and will definitely read it before picking up any tools. You asked why change the brake fluid; I have read numerous articles and heard from several mechanics (including an H-D mechanic) that brake fluid should be changed every two years. Brake fluid is hydrolytic and over time its specific gravity is compromised. We've had a particularly damp summer here, so the relative hunidity has been much higher than usual.
Regards,
Mike

Dear Johnny;
I'm about to change the brake pads and brake fluid (front and rear) on my 2001 Heritage Classic (FLSTC-I). I understand how to do this, having done it on other bikes, but was wondering if there were any tips or hints particular to my bike that you could give me.
Thanks very much.

I dont know why you have to change the fluid on your brakes?   My tip would be use a factory Harley Davidson service manual and READ it berfore you start the work. There are torque spes you need in there  Johnny

Answer
in 1976 Harley went from Glycose base dot 3 brake fluid that absorbed water and had a low temperture boiling point to a dot 5 break fluid witch is a silicon base that does not absorb water and has a very Hi boiling point. Your Mechanic a full of crap. Look in your new Factory Harley Davidson service manual and see when you are to replace brake fluid? Can't find it. Hmmm   If you find it please sent it to my so I can send all my certifactions back to Harley.And get out of this busness.    Johnny
