Falcon,

My 2003 Ninja 250 sat in the rain last night and this morning I started it up and it turned on with a little choke. After 2 minutes of riding it out, it died out on me whenever the bike idled - I would have to hold the throttle in. Eventually, that didn't work anymore and I walked the bike home. The bike was working perfectly yesterday so I don't understand what the problem is. I appreciate any and all help.

Thank you,

PJ

Hi PJ.
You have water intrusion in the fuel tank.  First thing you need to do is to drain the water out of the carbs and fuel tank.

Next, you need to replace the seal on the tank cap since it is clearly not up to specs.

Good luck.

Answer
Hi PJ.
There is a recessed screw at the bottom outboard side of each float bowl on the carbs.  Attatch a section of line to the drain that protrudes from the bottom of the float bowl and loosen the screw to drain and tighten to close.

Also get yourself a repair manual.  Either order one through a decent parts shop, the dealership, or through any of the online parts shops or book ordering places.

Good luck.
