Suzuki: help, suzuki samurai, rubber boot


Question
i have a 1987 suzuki samurai 4 wheel drive
and the wheel drive shifter is stuck on neutral. it does not engage to any setting 4 or 2 wheel. the car is neutral completely does not engage the clutch

Can you please guide me to return the shifter back to 2w drive

Try taking the shift ball off of the stick, removing the boot, remove the smaller rubber boot where the stick goes into the transfer case, and then by depressing and turning the retainer where the stick goes into the t-case, you can at that point usually withdraw the stick straight up.  At that point it should be possible to get the shift rail cutouts aligned next to each other (pry with a medium large screwdriver)and then re-assemble.  It's probable that the problem is caused by the bushing that supports the bottom of the ball and small bolt with a pin end being worn out.  If you go to izook dot com, and search the links, you will be able to get parts better than stock for a very reasonable price.
