Motorcycle Repair: Seized front calipers, honda 750, hydraulic pressure

Question
Hi Chris,
I am currently restoring an 82 honda 750 sc nighthawk which was badly stored for a few years. The front calipers are seized and after removing them and taking them apart, I can not get the pistons to budge, let alone remove and clean them. Any suggestions on removing the pistons without the help of compressed air.
Thanks, Sean

Answer
Hi Sean.
Caliper removal is usually easiest (albeit a bit messy) by simply removing the caliper assembly and use the hydraulic pressure in the system to pop the pucks out.  While using this method is a little messy, it is more effective than air pressure, since more pressure can be applied and it does not require an air compressor.

If the pucks do not come out by this method, then the only option will be to replace the calipers, since the pucks would be too badly rusted to salvage either them or the caliper.

Good luck.
