Motorcycle Repair: Motor oil.......front suspension fluid, motorcycle clutches, dive unit

Question
Hi Mark,
You have helped me before, and I hope you can assist me once more.
I have an '87 Ninja 1000R...22,000 miles on the clock. I regularly change the oil with Castrol 20w-50. Is it worth it to change to synthetic? Any downside?
Second: The owners manual calls for fork oil 10w-20. Never heard of that. Can you reccomend a substitute fork oil and the correct weight? This bike has the old anti-dive unit.
Thanks in advance,
Gary

Answer
Hi Gary,

Synthetic oils have superior protection properties. Some guys may argue over which to use. Be certain to select a brand of synthetic oil designed and labeled safe for motorcycle clutches.
