Motorcycle Repair: honda pan-european st1100 1993, honda pan european, dial calipers

Question
clutch perfect when cold, drags when hot and no feeling at lever. Back to normal when cold i've tryed bleeding no difference please advise ?

Answer
Hi Andy,

If bleeding was performed properly and the system is air and moisture free, I suspect the clutch plates (metal) are warped.

Heat from engine causes metal clutch plates to heat. Warped plates may warp even more with increased temperatures causing the symptoms described.

If you're capable, disassemble and inspect clutch assembly. Using verneer/dial calipers, measure thickness of each clutch fiber disc in three places around disc. Check for scoring or discoloration. Replace all plates if the service limit is exceeded.

Check clutch metal plates for warpage or discoloration. Lay metal plates on surface plate and check for warpage by using a feeler gauge. Replace all plates if the service limit is exceeded.

Respectfully,
