Motorcycle Repair: Spark plug or battery?, suzuki intruder 800, 2004 suzuki intruder 800

Question
Hey falcon, I recently bought my first bike a 2004 suzuki intruder 800, the bike sat dorment for about two and a half weeks, now when i go to start the engine it sounds like its trying to kick over, but doesnt, then when i try again it just clicks real weak like a car with a dead battery, only thing is, the lights still come on and the electronics are still working?

Answer
Hi TJ.
One of the things that I found with the Intruder, is that the battery ground cable is not situated really well.  Star by checking it.  You could have a broken or worn through cable.  Next check the fuses.  All of them.  You could have a blown or loose ignition fuse.  Check the battery itself with a hygrometer.  You could have a bad one.

To see if it is electrical or fuel, then get some automotive starting fluid and spray it into the air intake and start the bike.  If it is a fuel problem, then the bike will start up and die.  If it is electrical, then the bike will not start at all.

If this bike is a 2004, then it should still be under warranty, so you should be able to take it back to the dealer and they should be working on the problem at their cost.

I cannot think of any other reason that your bike should be acting like that as long as you are getting fuel to the carbs.  2-3 weeks is not long enough for the fuel to go bad on you.

Start with those things.
Good luck.
