Nissan Repair: fuel gauge not working - 1992 Pathfinder, fuel gauge, fuel sending unit

can you tell me why a fuel gauge would not work in a 1992 pathfinder? wiring? something worse? can you describe how to fix it?

1992 Nissan Pathfinder LE 4x4 /  4 door / V-6 / automatic

( Canadian model - if that makes any difference ).

Hi Simon -

Well, the short answer is probably the fuel sending unit, which is located in the fuel tank, however, if you can answer the following questions before we condemn the sending unit, might save you some trouble.

Is your check engine light on?
Is the gauge stuck on E, stuck on F, somewhere in the middle, or just not accurate?
Have you checked all your fuses?
All other gauges seem to work?
