Nissan Repair: 1986 nissan 300zx, nissan 300zx, positive cable

Question
my 300zx has got a problem. I was at a red light and all of a suddenly my instrument gauges started flicking on and off. When I got home I had nothing working inside the car, it still ran but no brake light headlight turn signals nothing.I found the fusible link and saw that the wire had burned through!I pulled the link and started the car, good.I found a link at the junk yard replaced it and went to connect the battery and it arced really bad.So I started searching for anything that looked wrong and found the wire to my alternator was frayed at the terminal connection,It was still connected by only a couple of strands of wire, have not replaced the terminal yet but do you think this could be the reason it blew the fusible link? thanks

Answer
I think the reason is in the alternator. It is not uncommon that the positive cable that runs from the battery to the alternator starts arcing because the stator fails to be insulated from the positive terminal. Action needed: replace the alternator.
