Nissan Repair: Brake Drums, brake drums, beck arnley

Question
I'm about to install new Beck Arnley drums on my 94 Max. Instructions say that braking surface should be cleaned with a "solvent." Will a brake cleaner in a spray can suffice, or what do you recommend?

Answer
Anything that dissolves and disperses grease is a solvent. I recommend any commercial degreaser like Gunk, carburetor cleaner, cigarette lighter fluid etc. Brake parts cleaner is like starting fluid. I will do the job but it evaporates fast. So, if you gonna use that, spray the drum and wipe immediately with a shop towel. Make sure there's no trace of that protective grease on the surface where it comes in contact with the brake shoes.
