Nissan Repair: 2008 v-6 altima cam shaft sensor problem, competent mechanic, cam shaft

Question
Check engine light is on about 80% of time.  Error code is p0011.  IVT, camshaft "a" position timing over advanced.  Dealership tech told me to clean around the solenoid that controls it.  Can you tell me how to do this or a place on-line to find out?  If it doesn't work and sensor pack has to be replace should it be done at dealership or local shop?  Ballpark idea of what a repair like this should cost?  Thanks in advance.

Paul

Answer
Hi Paul -

There are special cleaners that you can use for sensors. Because of the complexity of detail and the challenge of physically not being there, I am going to refer you to a site that may help you on all counts.

try going to www.2carpros.com

Normally the dealer should be the one to replace this. However, if you have a good recommended, competent mechanic to go to, you will save a lot of money. Just that there are lot of less than desirable shops out there and I don't want you to be caught in one of them .

Hope this helps -
