Nissan Repair: Heat, vacuum line, heater hose

Question
My heat is not working on my 2005 Pathfinder. What do I need to do before going to a mechanic?  It blows out cool air.

Answer
Hi Alice -

The heating system is controlled by a valve in line with your heater hose, located somewhat near the firewall in the engine compartment. Looks like the valve is either stuck closed or not opening because of poor or no vacuum.

With the engine running and on heat, remove the hose and see if there is vacuum. If so, then the valve needs replacing. If not, then look for a break in the vacuum line somewhere, or the source.

Hope this helps -
