Nissan Repair: horn, haynes manual, steering wheel cover

Question
My truck horn blows when i truns the steering wheel by it self, is it a bad relay or what ?

Answer
Jimmy,

Either the horn pad is shorting out causing the horn to blow or the carbon brush in the column is shorting out.  Either way the steering wheel cover needs to come off to see what is going on with the contacts.  I do not know the year of your vehicle but if it has an airbag you need to follow the procedures to disable the system before you remove anything airbag related.  Get a Haynes Manual or a factory service manual and follow the procedures.  Basically, disconnect the battery and wait five minutes.  Remove the airbag fuse and wait five minutes.  Pull the knee bolster under the dash and disconnect the yellow harness that is marked airbag and wait another five minutes.  Get the special socket to remove the airbag being careful not to get in the business end of the airbag.  Remove the airbag holding it away from you and placing it face up where it will not hurt anyone if it accidentally goes off.  Now, you can diagnose the horn assembly.
