Nissan Repair: 1991 Nissan Sentra brake lights staying on, nissan sentra, light fuse

Question
Brake lights staying on even with car off. Made sure nothing is in the way or pressing on brakes. Will this drain battery? Anyway to disconnect till I get it to a auto shop? Any help will be great.

Answer
Hi Yvonne,

First, yes it is not good for the battery, it will drain if the lights remain on.

Secondly, the reason for the lights being on is that there is a grommet where the brake switch contacts the pedal on the upper part of the brake shaft. This grommet probably broke off. It is a common thing, but the part is very inexpensive, and all you do is snap it on.

The best way to handle this is to remove the brake light fuse. Fuse box is located under dash drivers side. This way you can still drive to the repair shop.

Hope this helps!]
