Nissan Repair: 1986 Nissan 300ZX Turbo, nissan 300zx, rotor position

Question
How do I replace the distributor on a 1986 300ZX Turbo without screwing up the timing or is this not an issue?  Do you have a link or an instruction sheet?
Thank you in adavance.

Answer
Steve,

You can mark the distributor position and install the new one in the same orientation.  However, you are still going to need a timing light to fine tune the timing.  The distributor uses a drive dog so you will not get the distributor 180 out if you pull the cap and not the rotor position and install the new one the same way.  The bottom of the distributor shaft is like a flat blade screwdriver so it will go in easy, with a little wiggling.  But, where the distributor bolts down you will need to look and take note as to how it is bolted down.  That will get you in the ballpark and you can get someone with a timing light to get it perfect.
