Nissan Repair: Nissan Micra LX 1,0 year 1994 ignition, air control valve, nissan micra

Question
Hi
Sometimes at low rpms with clutch disenganged the engine stalls and the ignition light comes on . For example waiting at a red traffic light . Then i restart the engine and goes off. A cuople of minutes later - theres nothing wrong - when disenganging the clutch holding freerun up to a traffic crossroad - and gearing down . Nothing wrong when driving at speed on the highway or freeway.
Spark plugs seems fine - distrubutor cap is okay . Spark plug cables looks okay .
Battery is new . ....  Any idea ? Is there  some sort of electronic idle device that is giving trouble - or a regulator ? Checked the vacum hoses also - no cracks .
kind regards
cn

Answer
Carsten,

My thoughts are with the idle air control valve and the throttle body.  If the throttle body is gummed up and the idle air control valve is sticking the idle will be down enough, from the conditions you mention, to trigger the light and kill the engine.  As long as there is momentum the car will stay running, as in down shifting.  I would clean the throttle body and remove and inspect the idle air control valve and clean it.  I do not know if they ship to Denmark but rockauto.com or courtesyparts.com are both good sources for parts and they are reasonable, price wise.
