Nissan Repair: 2003 Nissan Maxima - Rattles During Idle, 2003 nissan maxima, rubber bushings

Question
I have been noticing a rattle when my car is in idle, and it dissapears when I rev the engine.  The rattleing does go away when the AC is turned off, and immediately returns when the AC is turned back on.  Recently I had a check engine light on and cleaned the MAP and replaced the air filter.  After erasing the codes the 1800 code "High or Low voltage to the solenoid" has returned but only as a pending code.

Answer
Chris,

The P1800 VIAS is the solenoid that opens the secondary runners on the intake.  You have two intake valves per cylinder and only one is open at idle up to about half throttle.  After that the VIAS opens the second set of runners and that is what gives you more power.  At an idle, if it is open you should not experience a rattle.  But, if you have a rattle at idle I would think the electronic motor mounts or the radiator rubber bushings could be failing.  The radiator acts to dampen the engine vibration at idle as do the electronic engine mounts.  If your mounts have leaked they need to be replaced.  If the rubber mounts for the radiator are torn or hard they will need to be replaced too.  rockauto.com or courtesyparts.com are both excellent sources to save cash.  Compare to the dealer and your local parts store...
