Nissan Repair: Nissan code 32, 4cyl 120,000 mi 1992 CA., vacuum line, open valve

Question
Hi Von, Check light on,you suggested I check code. Found code 32 (EGR valve) In your experience does cleaning the EGR valve normally fix the error code or is there any other related parts that fail and cause 32 code. Will fallow what Autozone suggest for servicing, testing EGR and related parts. Also exhaust sounds like there is a leak at idle, was told it is the open valve. Is 5/16 vacuum line correct size for replacement?

Answer
Daryl,

I would replace the EGR valve with a new one and be sure to clean the mounting surface and port before installing the new one.  Disconnect the battery for five minutes to clear the code after you are done.  5/16 is close.  But, it is actually a metric size.  Pull yours and match it as best you can since most parts stores do not stock metric hose.  The EGR is the usual suspect in the code 32 error.
