Nissan Repair: overheating problems with nissan cd20, radiator cooling fan, fan components

Question
what cause a nissan cd20 to overheat without using the water from the radiator bottle

Answer
Hi Fred -

First of all I would check the thermostat and radiator cooling fan.

Checking the thermostat:
Run the engine until operating temperature. Feel the top hose, and lower hose. If the lower hose is cooler than the top, the thermostat is probably stuck. Replace that and you should be good to go.

If both hoses are warm, then run it further and see if the cooling fan(s) start. If not, then check the fan switch, temp sending unit, or motor.

If you need assistance checking the fan components, let me know.

The water reservoir works on a closed system, and designed to capture water when the engine is hot and water expands into the bottle. When it cools, then the water is supposed to suck back in the engine.

hope this helps -
