Nissan Repair: nissan pulsar intermittent horn problem, nissan pulsar, process of elimination

I am having difficulties with the horn on my n13 pulsar - sometimes it works, mostly it doesn't. I thought it may have been a problem with the horn pad so I installed another one. The horn was working as I was tightening the screws on the back of the steering wheel but then stopped and I can't get it going again.  Sounds like a loose connection but I can't figure out where - any ideas?  Thanks

Process of elimination.  Remove the horn pad and ground the wire and see if the horn works.  If it does then there is something wrong with the horn pad.  Or, perhaps on installation you need to inspect the connection and see if it is loose.  If the horn does not work when you ground the wire then you need to look at the horn relay or the horn itself.
