Nissan Repair: Nissan Pintara 1990 Auto, spark plug wire, heat load

Question
The car starts fine from cold but when the engine is warm it will not start. For example I can't go get petrol as the engine won't start immediately after filling it up. I have to push it away from the pump and allow it to cool first.
It has a new battery and alternator. It is not over-heating. It throws over fine but just won't start, then will eventually catch and go but can take up to an hour for this to happen.
Have tried changing the oil but doesn't seem to have helped. Any other suggestions?
Many thanks, Scott

Answer
Hi Scott -

Have you checked the ignition module? This is located in the distributor.

Please do this test. With the engine in the "no start" mode, pull a spark plug wire and insert a screwdriver securely in the boot, Have a helper crank the engine while holding the screwdriver about 1/4" away from any metal surface. If there is no spark jumping, then the module could be defective, as it is famous for failing under heat load, and will usually fire up when cooled down.

If there is spark and the engine still does not start, Look for a fuel problem, such as fuel cut off relay, fuel pump.

Hope this helps -
