Nissan Repair: Oil Recommedation, nissan xterra, gas mileage

Question
What type/brand of oil is recommended for a 2001 Nissan Xterra XE 2WD? I have 62,000+ miles.

Answer
Hi Tiffany -

I always recommend a switch to synthetic oil, if you are not using it already. It is a lot better for the engine, and in soome cases even saves on gas mileage because there is less friction for the engine components. I did not get the info on where you live, as it would matter what type of oil you need to use. However, if you live in colder climates, you should go with something like 10W/50. Warmer climates can use 20W/50 or 30W/50. I am in Hawaii, and definitely use the 30W/50

Hope this helps -
