Nissan Repair: engine probs nissan vanette, 2.3 d v reg, cheers woody, nissan vanette

Hi all,
     drove for 1 1/2 hrs on sat no probs, stoped engine once there and tried it 10 mins later nothing, just a clicking noise, aa man said that the engine had siezed as he couldn't turn it in gear with a spanner? Sounds strange, also tried bumping it and it just skidded, any ideas.

If the engine lacked oil pressure or the mechanical timing has been disturbed could cause the problem.  Lack of lubrication can cause the engine to lock.  An overheating condition can cause this problem too.  Lastly, if the timing has jumped the engine will not turn either.  Try turning the engine backwards and see if it moves.  If it does, it is timing.  Remove the timing cover and see if it has jumped.  If so, the head will ahve to be removed and the valves renewed.  You might get lucky and no piston damage could have occured.  If not, certain pistons will have to be replaced too.  If it is lack of oil or overheat you are looking at a replaecment engine.
