Nissan Repair: replacing a starter, negative battery cable, nissan sentra

Question
Where can I find a step by step guide online to replacing a starter in a 1994 Nissan Sentra? I have the Chilton's Manual but it does not give those kind of details.

Answer
Lisa,

Even the factory service manual will not give you all the steps.  But, nissantechinfo.com is where you can download the manual.  $20 bucks for an hours access gives you enough time to get the .pdf manual downloaded.  But, from my experience, these are the steps.  Disconnect the negative battery terminal to keep from shorting anything out.  Next, remove the bolts that hold the starter on.  I do it this way since I can get access to the wires that connect to the starter easier.  Remove the wires to the starter.  On different vehicles you have stuff that you have to move or remove to get the starter.  Now, you have the starter out compare it to what you got at the store before you install the new one.  You want to make sure the parts store sold you the correct one.  Install it and depending on the wiring install the connector before or after you bolt up the starter.  Put everything back on you had to remove to get to the starter and then reconnect the negative battery cable.  Also, a Haynes Manual has better photographs than a Chilton if you want to go that route.  Also, if you do not have the extra cash for another book there is always the library.  They have lots of car manuals and the use of a copier is like ten cents a copy...
