Nissan Repair: sterring wheel, turn signal switch, steering linkage

Question
QUESTION: i have a 1997 Nissan truck xcab i have a noise in the steering wheel that sounds like something has broke or became loose on the inside

ANSWER: Hi William -

Could it be the front suspension or steering linkage? Does it only make noise over bumps? If so, then check the idler arm, tie rods, center link.

If it is comoing from within the steering wheel, it could be a number of things - if the horn is not working, it could be the contacts for it. Perhaps terminals from your turn signal switch. Are all components connected to the steering wheel working?

The only way to check this out is to remove your steering wheel. You will need a puller for this. Do you have one?

If so, I will walk you through it.

Please let me know

QUESTION: everything works fine on the steering all switch the noise is like two small pices of metal hitting each other i took off the Collier all looks fine iam not going to much further with the airbag.
if put you and on the cover where the airbag is you can feel a rattle, i only feel this when i hit a bump

Answer
Hi William -

Yes, it is wise not to continue if you are not familiar with how the air bag works. If it deploys, it will be very costly to repair.

At this point the only thing I can say is that you have to remove the steering wheel. I would recommend taking it to a reputable place and have it checked out.
