Nissan Repair: steering pump, nissan crew cab, power steering fluid

2005 frontier nissan crew cab 4x4. Steering is difficult to retract to the right or left when reversing.As if power steering pump is not working and has a manual steering.

I am assuming that the power steering fluid level is OK. Are you saying the steering is fine when the car is in drive?

Anyway, this is either the pump itself or the rack. Loosen the pressure side of the steering hose (this is the one with the metal fitting molded to the hose), and start the engine briefly. If there is fluid coming out with pressure, then the steering pump is OK, and the steering rack will probably have to be replaced.
