Nissan Repair: oil on optical sebsor, sensitive circuits, electrical items

Question
If theres is oil in the distributor on the optical sensor cannot you just clean it up and get rid of the oil and then why should it not work again.

Hi Stan -

Oil has certain reactions on electrical items if left too long. Most oils are detergent based, and can cause problems to electrical components. If the celan up is right away, then it should be OK. However, these sensors operate on micro volts and have sensitive circuits, and if oil penetrates, will cause damage.
