Nissan Repair: Instrument panel lighting not working, volt ohm meter, instrument lighting

Question
Hi. I called the dealer on which power window assembly would replace the 2000 Xterra, and he told me:
2000-2004  Xterra
98-01 Altima and Sentra GXE.
Well I tried the Sentra GXE (touring) and I heard a fuse pop.  The unit did NOT work any of the windows etc and looked a bit different (but stupid me tried it anyway).  It wasn't until nightfall I realized which fuse it was. I have no instrument lighting now.  How do I go about fixing this?? Thanks.

Answer
Kevin,

Two things run the instrument lights.  First is the headlight switch that feeds power to them and the second is the instrument light dimmer.  If both are good, you can test them with a volt/ohm meter or test light, then make sure you have checked all the fuses.  Be sure to have the proper switch in before you start the process.
