Nissan Repair: 96 Maxima transmission, overdrive switch, auto transmission

I just bought a 96 maxima. I want to change Auto transmission handle. I removed everything to get to handle. But I can not remove the transmission handle. Please tell me how i remove the handle. Do i have to go under the car? Thanks

The shifter is difficult to remove since it has a shift interlock that keeps the car in park unless the brake pedal is pressed.  You will need to remove the shifter assembly and place it on a bench to get to the screws from the underside.  Cant really get to them from under the car so just remove the shifter assembly.  Remember not to screw up the overdrive switch as it is on the assembly as well.
