Nissan Repair: Nissan Terrano engine temperature, nissan terrano, terrano 3

Question
Nissan Terrano 3,0 TD. Engine temperature jumps up without identified reason. The car was standing for 3 days at Nissan Service in Krefeld, Germany, a week later 2 days at Nissan Service Poznan, Poland. In both cases they tested everything, cleaned cooling system, radiator outside & inside. Now, again after a week, the car stands at Nissan Service in Szczecin, Poland without any diagnosis. Any suggestions, any tips ?

best regards

Wojtek from Poland

Answer
Wojtek,

A couple of things have the ability to cause this problem.  I will review them from cheapest to most expensive to repair.  The thermostat could be sticking and need to be replaced.  The radiator could have debris internally causing a blockage and this could cause the temperature jump.  A blown headgasket could be allowing the over-pressurization of the cooling system and this would cause the temperature to spike.  Lastly, if the fuel injectors are plugging up this could cause an over-temperature as would decreased fuel pressure.  The last one here is highly unlikely since this will usually kill the engine and without enough fuel the engine would not start.
