Nissan Repair: 1997 Sentra brake bleeding, rear brakes, defective valve

Question
I have a 1997 Sentra XE. I investigated my brakes due to having a soft pedal. They worked just fine but I wanted to ensure that the shoes were good. I changed the left rear wheel cyl due to a leak. Since then I've tried in vain to bleed the right rear brakes and can only get a dribble out of the bleeder. The right rear brakes are not applying but the other 3 are. What am I missing?

Thank you very much for any help you can provide.

Robert

Answer
Robert,

If the right rear is not bleeding you have a blockage or a crushed brake line.  If the line is not crushed you will need to work your way back to the master cylinder to find the blockage.  If yours has ABS you probably have a defective valve in the ABS unit and it will have to be replaced.  Be sure to check for damaged brake lines before you think about replacement of the ABS unit.  I have found several cars where some bonehead crushed brake lines with a floor jack in the wrong location...
