Nissan Repair: 1995 200sx failed e-check, smog check station, ppm hc

Question
My mother's car just failed e-check.-has 166,000 miles and runs geat.  The NO is 1533 ppm.(hc 19.4, co 0, co2 14.89). I heard it could need a new oxygen sensor-is there something else to check?  Thanks

Answer
Darlene,

There is too much gas going through the engine and the converter is not able to deal with it.  I would make sure of the following:
The sparkplugs, cap, rotor and wires are new or changed within the last two years.  The fuel filter has been changed recently.  The fuel pressure has been checked to make sure no injectors are leaking.  Once the above have been verified get an oil change and drive the car to make sure it is at operating temperature.  Never go into a SMOG check station unless the car has been driven for at least 15 minutes to get it running clean.  Also, Super Unleaded would be good for the test.  Oh, if the oxygen sensor has not been changed in 50,000 miles it would be a good idea to change it too.
