Nissan Repair: Maxima muffler removal question, stock muffler, rust hole

Question
Hi, I was planning on replacing the muffler on my 2000 maxima because of a rust hole behind the flange on the muffler side. But while looking under it I noticed that the inlet of the muffler goes through the suspension member, and it looked like it might be a tight fit trying to pull out the old muffler. So I was wondering if I'd have to remove the suspension member to get the old one out, and put the new one in, because it looks like it might be a tight fit trying to get the flange through the space. Thanks

Answer
Ed,

Replacement of the muffler does not require removal of the suspension components.  The stock muffler is great on the Maxima since it is basically a Skyline muffler.  You could get one from courtesynissan.com or there are many aftermarket mufflers available.  I would look at getting new rubber hangers as they tend to break due to age.
