Nissan Repair: 1993 Nissan Altima GXE, nissan altima, gas fuel

Question
My dad drove my Nissan 10 hrs/650 miles to me without a problem, now it's having trouble starting. It will turn over but won't start. It think it's a fuel problem, but don't know a lot about injection systems. Sometimes I can get it to start if I pump the gas, but then it will die as soon as I take my foot off the gas unless I rev it up for about 10-15 seconds, then it will stay running. When it won't start, there is a sound coming from the engine compartment that sounds electrical, almost like a pump. But I thought there was only one fuel pump in the gas tank? Could it be bad gas, fuel filter, pcv valve, fuel pump, pressure regulator or fuel injector, or something else? (how difficult is it to change the pvc

Answer
Shannon,

I need more information to solve this one.  I would have the fuel pressure checked along with the timing.  Since you say there is a sound coming from the engine compartment like a fupming noise I would think the engine has jumped timing.  But, I need information like what the fuel pressure is and the timing to make a confirmed call.  Check these and email me back with the readings and we can go further.
