Nissan Repair: 2001 Nissan xterra no start when hot, nissan xterra, haynes manual

Question
I have a 2001 Nissan xterra 3.3 v6 with 64k on it. If you shut the engine off after operatting for awhile it will not start! If you let the engine cool down or sit overnight it will fire and drive with no problem. During a hot start attempt the engine will turn but acts as if it is fuel starved or it will start and idle very roughly and then stall. There is no check engine light on. I had a buddy put it on a obdII sustem and it came up as knock sensor. Does this sound correct? also if i replace the knock sensor myself where on the engine is it located?...Thank you

Answer
Joe,

Yes, it does sound like a knock sensor defect.  If the scanner came up with it that as much as confirms it.  The knock sensor is a pain to get to since it is under the intake.  If you purchase a new one you will see what you are loking for.  A Haynes Manual is a good investment since it shows you what you need to remove to get to the sensor.  Also, be sure to reset the computer with your friend's scanner after you are done.
