Nissan Repair: 98 Maxima trouble starting, cold start, throttle body

Question
On my 98 Maxima, I go to start it and it appears to start then dies immediately.  I generally push the accelorator to keep the RPM's up and then it starts.  Once it starts I don't have any issues.  I replaced the alternator for a second time last spring.  This tends to happen more after it has rained or cold.  Any suggestions?

Answer
Kevin,

When was the last time a tuneup was performed?  If the plugs are old and the filter has not been changed I would start there.  If you have done a tuneup in the last year I would be looking at the throttle body being cleaned and check for the idle stop being in adjustment and working properly.  You did not say if the check engine light was on.  If it is get Checker or Autozone to read the code for free and email me back with the results.  If there is a code I would think the cold start sensor on the engine could be defective not letting the computer know the engine is cold.
