Nissan Repair: battery idiot light, ground wires, warning light

Question
I have a nissan 97 pu, 4x4, 4 cylinder. My battery warning light does not light up when I turn the ignition key. The other warning lights are on. I know the battery warning light is good because it lights up when I ground the appropriate wire from the alternator. My battery and alternator are new. I have to keep charging the battery manually. I have cleaned the ground wires by the battery. Could this problem be associated with the ignition switch, Thanks, any help will be appreciated.

Answer
Duncan,

I would think the alternator is defective or the wiring is incorrect or broken.  The battery light is supposed to light when the key is turned to on as the switch grounds it.  Since the truck is only a 97 the possibility of the ignition switch being defective is remote.  Check the wiring and the fuse links at the battery positive terminal.
