Nissan Repair: Transmission Problem, nissan maxima se, cv boots

Question
I have a 1996 Nissan Maxima SE. Both outer CV boots were broken, so I decided to replace both axles instead of doing the whole process of changing the CV boots. I drove the car after that and everything was fine. The next day, I drove the car for about 5 mile on the highway, while on the ramp exit I accelerated and the car wouldn't go and made a very loud crank noise. So I put the car in Park, then shifted gears and it made the sound even harder. (Reverse, Neutral, Drive, 2, 1). I turned the car off and turned it on Neutral and it was fine then put it on drive accelerated a bit and same problem. Tranny fluid was fine. When my car was toed it started leaking tranny fluid. What could possibly go wrong?

Answer
Hi Ron,

You don't have the axle(s) in all the way. There is a clip on the end and it is very hard to secure. The axle(s) are junk now so you will need to pick up at least the one that isn't in or both if you didn't get them both in. When you get the axle get a seal also because that will be trashed also. Then there is the possibility that you whacked the bushing in the transmission which will have to be replaced if it continues to leak after installing the axle and seal.
