Volvo Repair: Maintenance for a 1991 Volvo 740 w/ 110,700 mi, preventive maintenence, check belts

Question
Dear Bilbo,

I just purchased a 1991 740 with 110,700 miles (no service records were available). I am changing the plugs, wires, cap, rotor and getting the transmission fluid and oil changed.

What else should I think about in terms of maintenance? I really need this car to last another 4-5 years.

Thank you !!
Chris

Answer
Hi Chris,
Change fuel filter..rear axle oil...maybe cooling system fluid.
Clean and test battery and terminals and install non-corrosive insert to posts...check belts and hoses..
Chris, there are many other systems that I would change...rack and pinion steering oil..check for stuck calipers..gravity bleed all calipers til clear fluid shows...clean door weatherstriping/seals and spray with silicone..lube door locks and hinges/related hardware...also hood latches/pins...check wiper blades
and squirter liquid/spray.
I really put a full effort into preventive maintenence, most of the above are for that reason.
                Happy motoring,
                              Bilbo
