Hi, My wifes cherry 89 Nissan truck with Z24I engine surges. We found the ecu does not match the one in Chilton manual for this engine. It is similar to ecu for KA24e engine (turn screw to activate). Manual speaks of mode I, II, III, etc. No modes on ecu that I can see. Green light flashes 5 times with warm engine, on or off. Surging is most severe at highway speeds. Could not find vacuum leaks. Thanks in advance for help.

Hi Al,

I know you don't want to take it to the shop, but that engine is fully computer controlled. The green light flashing indicates a dignostic code is present and you need to have it scanned so I can tell you what needs to be done. Try to find someone that can scan that old of truck and resubmit to me the code numbers. Most Cottmans can do this and they do it for free if there is one near you.

Answer
The problem is not the injectors. It will be a sensor. If you use an additive to flush the injectors you will clog your catalytic converter. Then you'll be bumming. Take it to a Cottman and have it diagnosed properly, or you can continue to throw money at it.
